Welcome to Central Point...
Central Point originated where two important wagon roads of the past converged. Incorporated as a city in 1889, it has grown to a city of 15,000 residents. Its economy is based on agriculture, tourism, timber products, and retail trade. Its proximity to Medford, Ashland and Jacksonville affords it access to many cultural attractions, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Britt Music Festival, the Ginger Rogers Craterian Theater and the Jackson County Expo Center which is located just off I-5 and hosts numerous fairground events throughout the year, including the annual Jackson County Fair.
Recreational opportunities abound in the area and Central Point is central to them all. The nearby Upper and Lower Table Rocks are huge mesas that highlight the surrounding landscape. Hiking trails provide opportunity to rise above it all and take in the fantastic views of the surrounding Rogue Valley, Mt. McLaughlin and Mt. Ashland. Wildflowers, birdlife and geological history make it of special interest to the professional and amatuer naturalist alike.
Central Point’s present claim to fame is that it is home to the world’s oldest and largest hearing dog training facility, Dogs for the Deaf, established in 1977 and an award winning, internationally known cheese factory, The Rogue Creamery, established in 1935. It’s also the location of the original Grange Co-op, an agricultural supply cooperative established in 1934.
