Welcome to Selma...
Named in 1897 by the postmaster’s wife after her home town in Iowa, Selma is today the gateway to Southern Oregon’s wild and scenic Illinois River and to the vast Kalmiopsis Wilderness which stretches 60 miles westward through the mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The surrounding trees and mountains create a rustic setting for the town businesses and services which are located along a half mile stretch on both sides of the Redwood Highway 99.
Kerby Peak Trail and the160 acre Lake Selmac provide the outdoor recreationalist with opportunities for hiking, fishing, boating, sailing and swimming. Lake Selmac Resort has a well established, hosted 91 site campground, 39 of which have full hook-ups. With an RV dump station, restrooms and showers, picnic shelters, ball fields and boat ramps, the resort has all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Annual events include the Kids’ Fishing Derby in June, the Lake Selmac Fly Float in July and the Iron Horse Rodeo at the end of June/early July. Open year-round Lake Selmac is designated as a trophy bass lake by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. In addition to bass, the lake offers trout, crappie, bluegill, and bullheads. Peak time for bass and trout is March through August.
